Waving down by the River in Leclaire

Here is a happy fellow showing off his civic pride, well, I mean the guy waving, not the one on the bench.

Kim and Dogs Clean up water feature

When we bought this house we knew there was a water feature in the back yard, but we just started to dig it out to see if it is functional.  Full of oak leaves is not functional.  Amazingly the pump survived the winter outside.  However, our new pond lady said it was not big enough to do the job.

So Kim and her Cardigan Welsh Corgi helpers (well really Aylssa) started to clean it out.

Did you notice her lovely lavendar boots?

Yard Work Galore

Okay, the family is back in yard work galore.  But the big question, if we took all those oak leaves out last fall, why are there truckloads still on the ground after the snow melted?  I was excused because I am slow and because I injured my leg after 9 days in the Winnebago at a dog show.  Can we send out an airplane and send down an aerial glue spray to keep all those leaves on the tree?

Iowa is in the news these days and we are having a wedding here this weekend, must work fast….

Kim worked hard, lots of mud, check out the shoes…

Kim and Aylssa murder those leaves (are you sure this is spring?)

This is one of several leaf piles that ended up in the woods, hopefully to decompose and hold up the hill so our house stays on top of the rise instead of down in the Mississippi River.

Santa and Snowman, too much eggnog?

Our local grocery store, the Hy-Vee, always puts blow up seasonal figures on its roof.  But the stress of the season seem to have gotten to Santa and the Snowman, or was it too much rum in the eggnog or too much ice in the snowfall?

Wading in flood waters in work clothes

Laurie stopped by her cottage on the way home from work to check up on it.  She waded down the normally dry road to get in, but abandoned all boots on the way back out since to get into her back door, it was going over the top of her boots.  We got this one on crest day.

Good thing we can keep our sense of humor.  She and her husband have since repainted, replanted and decorated.  Looks good.

The party is over

The tent is empty and the guests are leaving:

Mom is exhausted, but Nick is partied up and graduated.

Going down!

Kim, and her brother Chris and their little sister Heidi decided they just had to get a log out of the river by the dock right before the party.   That was danger right there.  Then my sister Mary decided to wander out and help them, oh, not a wise choice.  Fortunately, Chris is an Army man and in good shape.   Heidi was in the river, and as you can see it was not very deep.  I was sure she was going to trip in that mud, so I kept the camera on her.  But keep your eye on my sister in the upper left hand corner.
